I reviewed ‘Across the Spider-Verse’

I am in love with the animation in this movie! Every single frame is so beautiful. Spider-Punk and Spider-Man India were my favorite characters and I would watch a spinoff that was just those two. But aside from the stunning visuals, I did have a few issues with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, though.

Here are my brief thoughts about the movie.

And for my full review, head on over to Trashwire.

Two smaller movies (and a series) you should check out

I reviewed two smaller movies that I liked a lot and you should give them a watch.

First up is BlackBerry, which feels smaller than AIR and Tetris in terms of production, but contains some of the best performances in one of these business biopic movies.

Next up is Polite Society, which is a very refreshing departure from blockbuster action movies. I had so much fun with this one!

I also recently watched Bupkis on Peacock and loved it.

I reviewed the Mario movie and AIR for Trashwire

It’s kind of crazy how much social media conversation has been sparked by The Super Mario Bros. Movie. It’s just an Illumination movie for kids, and yet people are so upset if you don’t think it’s the greatest thing ever made. I am one of those critics who didn’t love it (I thought it was fine) and I said so in my review.

I also made a TikTok about how the music in it was cliche. I stand by it. They should have used more music from the games and not the most cliche ’80s songs they could clear. But any criticism of this movie is apparently an attack on gamers, or makes you a cynical asshole, or means you’re pretentious for expecting a kids’ movie to be anything beyond super basic, or something along those lines.

I guess what I’m saying is, people need to calm the hell down about this movie.

I also reviewed AIR, which I liked a lot. But nobody’s losing their shit about this movie online because it’s aimed at adults.

And in addition to all that, Kim and I recorded a new episode of the Whatcha Watchin pod.

I reviewed ‘Tetris’ and ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ for Trashwire

I’ve been in a little bit of a rut when it comes to mainstream American movies. I’m feeling an overwhelming sense of “meh” from Marvel these days and most of the big blockbusters that have arrived recently land around the three-star range for me.

Recently, I had the chance to see Tetris and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves for Trashwire and I was pleasantly surprised by both. D&D, in particular, was surprisingly fun and had some solid laughs. My reviews for both are up now on Trashwire.
