Trying out new styles

I love all kinds of lettering, from super elegant scripts to blocky letters. I’m slowly trying to learn new ways of creating letters so I can try out different styles. After watching a recent tutorial by the ultra-talented Lauren Hom on GoodType‘s Instagram, I got totally obsessed with her 3D style.

Here are just a few of the pieces I’ve made as I practiced.

Say hello to Sugar Babe, my new font

I’ve just released another font! It feels like it’s been ages since I created a new one, but that’s mostly just because creating a font takes a zillion times longer than creating a brush. This one is called Sugar Babe, named after a nickname for my 14-year-old cat Lil Thang. She was heavily involved in this project, sitting on my lap during testing in Glyphs, trying to tap the Apple Pencil out of my hand while I was cleaning it up on my iPad and eventually just sitting on my computer so I couldn’t use it. Classic cat stuff.

I’ve been working on this big-ass brush collection for ages! I wanted to bundle together a bunch of my individual brushes into one gigantic pack for anyone looking try out a ton of new brushes. This pack contains a whopping 35 brush files (downloadable in one zip file) with unique textures, shapes and settings. In addition to the brushes you might have seen listed individually on my Etsy and Creative Market, you’ll also get Foiled Again and Old Timer, two brand new, never-before-released brushes.

New tutorial – Making basic shapes in Procreate

Everybody loves Procreate! It’s pretty much the greatest iOS app of all time and it’s definitely the most used app on my iPad Pro. The only thing I wish they offered were some standard shape brushes—a circle, a square, a heart, just standard shape stamps. After seeing a question about where to find standard shape stamp brushes posted in one of the iPad lettering FB groups I’m in, I decided to whip up this quick tutorial to show you how to make your own basic shape stamp for free using the Over app.
