The new Wes Anderson Roald Dahl short films are great!

There has been way too little press or marketing effort put into the new short films from Wes Anderson based on the stories of Roald Dahl. These four short films are streaming right now on Netflix and they’re all absolutely worth checking out. I made a short video about them, but I’m still trying to decide which one I like the most because I really dug all of them.

You can check our more of my quick reviews on Instagram, Tiktok, and Youtube.

I loved ‘The Creator’

I had the opportunity to see the new Gareth Edwards film The Creator and I loved it. It’s fantastic to see original sci-fi stories that look this good with a budget of only $80 million! My friend Leo from Geekly Goods and I talked about it on the Whatcha Watchin podcast, which you can check out on Trashwire or here.

A few recent bite-sized movie reviews

I’ve been catching up on new movies lately and created a whole bunch of bite-sized reviews for them over on TikTok and Instagram but I figured I would share them here too.

First up is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which I loved. The animation, writing, and runtime put this just above Across the Spider-Verse for me.

Next, we have Cassandro, which features Gael García Bernal in an award-worthy performance that I hope scores him a few nominations.

And most recently, I saw Dumb Money, which will now go on my list of things I begrudgingly enjoyed Pete Davidson in.

If you’ve seen any of these movies, hit me up on Bluesky, TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube to tell me what you thought of them.

Favorite underrated movies

I’ve been doing a little series over on TikTok and IG about my favorite underrated movies and thought I should collect a few of the videos here.

First up is Logan Lucky, which is an underrated gem. This Steven Soderbergh movie features Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Riley Keough, and Daniel Craig as well as appearances from several other fantastic stars. It’s really funny and I can’t believe didn’t see it when it came out.

Next, we have my favorite Mel Brooks movie, High Anxiety. This is probably my most quoted movie of all time—I say “What a dramatic airport!” at least three times a week—and it deserves to be held in the same regard as Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein.

We all love Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, but High Anxiety is my favorite Mel Brooks movie #melbrooks #melbrooksmovies #highanxiety #underratedmovies #movietok #filmtok

I also had to include one of my favorite movies, Attack the Block. This is John Boyega‘s first movie and I was lucky enough to interview him and director Joe Cornish at Comic-Con back in 2011 when this movie first came out.

I also wanted to include an early Peter Jackson movie that has a small cult following but deserves to be much more popular. The Frighteners stars Michael J. Fox and features Jackson’s excellent creepy, spooky visual style.

If you have an underrated movie recommendation, hit me up on Instagram, TikTok, Letterboxd, or BlueSky to tell me your faves.

A few quick movie recommendations

I’ve been posting short movie recommendations over on Instagram and TikTok and you should check them out if you’re looking for something good to watch.

First up, we have Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead

@trashwire

This movie has themes of friendship, work-life balace, and a zombie shark with legs. What more could you want? 🧟‍♂️🦈🦵 #zom100 #zom100netflix #zombieshark

Next is Broker, which was one of my favorite movies of 2022

Then we have Netflix’s painfully generic Heart of Stone

Then I checked out the Jennifer Lawrence comedy No Hard Feelings

And finally, I had the chance to see one of my all-time faves, Cannibal! The Musical, on the big screen for the first time and I had to make a little video about that too

You can also find all these videos over on the Trashwire youtube channel in the quick reviews playlist.
