A bunch of people I follow on Letterboxd were raving about Lokah: Chapter One – Chandra, a new Malayalam film that serves as the start of a supernatural cinematic universe.
I had the chance to see it and I totally understand what all the hype is about.
The YRF Spy Universe is my Fast Franchise. It’s over-the-top and filled with action in the exact way I like. I recently checked out Tiger 3 and recorded a bite-sized review.
Two movies I loved and would highly recommend to anyone looking for something to watch on Netflix: Gangubai Kathiawadi with Alia Bhatt and Pad Man with Akshay Kumar. Both are based on true stories and acted to perfection by their stars.
Pad Man is the story of a man in rural India who invents a low-cost maxi pad after seeing how much the women in his family struggle with sanitary solutions, but he faces tons of challenges like social stigma and competition from multinational corporations. I always hesitate to call a movie “wholesome” but this was really emotionally satisfying in a wholesome kind of way.Â
Gangubai is about a woman who is sold to a brothel and rises to power in order to protect sex workers and their children. Alia Bhatt’s powerhouse performance is just mesmerizing to watch and there is not a frame of this movie that isn’t visually gorgeous.Â
So if you aren’t afraid of subtitles and want something really fantastic to watch, definitely give these two a try.
