Just created a brand new video to show you how I quickly create 3D lettering on my iPad Pro with Procreate. This process was inspired by two amazingly talented lady letterers, Lauren Hom and Lisa Long, who you should definitely follow for lettering tips and inspiration.

Trying out new styles
I love all kinds of lettering, from super elegant scripts to blocky letters. I’m slowly trying to learn new ways of creating letters so I can try out different styles. After watching a recent tutorial by the ultra-talented Lauren Hom on GoodType‘s Instagram, I got totally obsessed with her 3D style.
Here are just a few of the pieces I’ve made as I practiced.
Say hello to Sugar Babe, my new font
I’ve just released another font! It feels like it’s been ages since I created a new one, but that’s mostly just because creating a font takes a zillion times longer than creating a brush. This one is called Sugar Babe, named after a nickname for my 14-year-old cat Lil Thang. She was heavily involved in this project, sitting on my lap during testing in Glyphs, trying to tap the Apple Pencil out of my hand while I was cleaning it up on my iPad and eventually just sitting on my computer so I couldn’t use it. Classic cat stuff.

New Procreate lettering brush – Not Too Shabby
Just released my latest Procreate lettering brush. This one is called Not Too Shabby. It has a grainy texture, kind of like an old, dry marker—or possibly chalk. I’ve been using this one for a while, but I didn’t have a name for it. Eventually, I settled on Not Too Shabby because it was giving me a bit of a Shabby Chic vibe with the worn, vintage texture.
It’s available now on Creative Market and Etsy, and as always, if you use it, tag @AlexisGentry on Instagram so I can see your cool art. Continue reading
