Trying out new styles

I love all kinds of lettering, from super elegant scripts to blocky letters. I’m slowly trying to learn new ways of creating letters so I can try out different styles. After watching a recent tutorial by the ultra-talented Lauren Hom on GoodType‘s Instagram, I got totally obsessed with her 3D style.

Here are just a few of the pieces I’ve made as I practiced.

Brand new Halloween brush pack for Procreate

It’s officially sweaters-and-boots weather here in Denver, which means it’s fall. The pumpkin spice latte is back at Starbucks and everyone’s sharing Hocus Pocus gifs on social media. That means Halloween is just around the corner, so I created this fun brush pack to celebrate.

Powered by Creative Market

The pack comes with three lettering brushes and, my personal favorite, a cute skull seamless pattern brush. It’s perfect for all your Halloween (and Dia de los Muertos) Procreate projects. Check out some examples of the brushes below and pick them up on Etsy or Creative Market.

Paint streak iPad lettering by Alexis Gentry

Paint streak lettering is my new favorite thing

If you’ve checked out my Instagram stories lately, you’ve probably seen some paint streak lettering. Prior to trying it out, I had seen this technique all over my feed from talented letterers like @ipadlettering and @stefankunz, but I had no idea how to do it. Then Myriam, the brilliant letterer behind @halfapx posted a quick tutorial in her Instagram story. I knew I had to try it out, and I completely fell in love with the technique and now all I want to do is make more of these.

Here are a few I’ve done using the streaky texture technique.

If you want to learn how to do it, check out Myriam’s tutorial here:
