Since this blog is usually about lettering, a lot of you might not know that I’m a member of the Denver Film Critics Society through my entertainment blog, Trashwire. Each year the DFCS members nominate films for our top picks of the year. The 2019 nominations just came out today, and while some of my faves (Bad Times at the El Royale) didn’t make the list, there are some super solid choices on here. You can check out the completel list on Trashwire.com. The winners will be announced Jan. 14.

Two new brushes – Static Shock and Broken Brush
I just released two brand new Procreate lettering brushes. You can buy them from Etsy or Creative Market.
The first is called Static Shock and it has a cool brush shape that gives it a choppy texture.

The second is called Broken Brush and it includes a unique shape and grain to make it resemble a broken old paint brush.

If you use them, tag @AlexisGentry on Instagram so I can check out your cool creations!
Free Halloween Coloring Pages
It’s no secret that everyone loves the symmetry tool in Procreate. It’s easily one of their best new features. I recently created some fun Halloween coloring pages using symmetry. The first is a bunch of Halloween items, skulls, pumpkins, spider webs, all that jazz. The second is a blank skull template that you can use to create some amazing sugar skulls.

Download the coloring pages as one Procreate file.
Download the Halloween symmetry design as a transparent PNG to print or import on your iPad.

Introducing Prime Meridian
I spent the whole weekend putting the finishing touches on a brand new font and now it’s finally ready to make its debut. I call it Prime Meridian because the Os and Gs kind of reminded me of a globe. It comes with capital letters only, but also includes numbers and some basic punctuation and symbols. I plan to install it on the Over app on my iPad and use it for creating Instagram posts, but it has all sorts of fun potential uses.
Pick it up on Creative Market or Etsy and tag @AlexisGentry in your creations so I can see the cool stuff you make!

Introducing the Sketchy Brush Pack
If you’ve followed me on Instagram for any period of time, you know that I really don’t like sketching.
I like diving headfirst into a project and letting the undo button be my sketch. But recently, I’ve been trying to train myself to sketch out my ideas to re-think layouts, lettering styles and sometimes colors. One project whwere I actually attempted to sketch first was this Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure quote, and I was thrilled with the way it turned out.
Maybe there’s something to this sketching thing after all!
So, with that in mind, I started working on a pack of brushes that made sketching more fun. I wanted pencils, ball-point pens, and even the look of a dried-out brush marker—which was modeled after one of my very own frayed and drying brush markers. That turned into this pack of 5 lettering brushes and a bonus texture called the Sketchy Brush Pack. You can get it now on Etsy and Creative Market.

Side note: One of my favorite (and most time-consuming) pieces of all time was created entirely with the Pencil Pusher brush in this pack.
