Whatcha Watchin playlist

At the start of the pandemic, I wanted to try to learn something new. I settled on making short review videos to talk about the streaming TV I’ve been watching. So far, I’ve made seven of them, and I’m hoping to make more in the future.

The most recent one is about Apple TV+ and why Ted Lasso convinced me to give the streaming service another chance after a somewhat disappointing launch.

If you want to check them all out, here’s the playlist on YouTube.

Learning new things during the pandemic

Let’s face it, things are pretty horrible right now between the coronavirus crisis and the growing civil unrest as America starts to reckon with its history of systemic racism. If you’re like me, when you need a break from all the anger and gloom, you binge watch TV shows on your favorite streaming services. You also attempt to do something creative or learn a new skill as a pick-me-up when things are on fire in the world around you. I wanted to learn basic video editing and create some new content for Trashwire, and the result is this little video I made about three great comic book shows I’ve loved.

This is my first attempt at one of these video reviews, so feedback is welcome. Feel free to leave a comment on YouTube or tweet me if you loved it or even if you hated it.

Stay safe out there, wear your mask, and let’s try to stay calm and support each other while we all deal with the chaos around us.

All I want to do is watch Clark and Michael

For those who don’t know, Clark and Michael was an internet series starring Clark Duke and Michael Cera and it’s my favorite thing to ever come from the internet. There were only 10 episodes, but those contained lines I still quote to this day, most of them coming from my comedy crush, Clark Duke.

Here are a few of my faves:
“If there’s one piece of lettuce in my hard shell taco, I’ll but it down, whole building.”
“Her ass was shaped bizarre. It was like two globes of two different planets colliding.”

And of course, there’s Clark’s pitch for his secret show, “D.A. Dad”:
“It’s about a single father of three that’s also a district attorney for the city. That’s the genius of it; the complexity. You got it on two levels – you got it on parallel rails running down: a theme on one side, and character arc on the other. We’re going to nail that 18-34 market. He thinks he’s teaching these kids but these kids are really teaching him.”

I am in love with the SING video

Gerard Way in My Chemical Romance's SING video

The latest My Chemical Romance video is up on Youtube now and it’s stunning. If this video was a dude, I’d marry it. Visually, I love the blue tone and the way the light overwhelms the frame at times. On the performance side, the guys do some acting and it’s more like a short film, telling a real story, than a music video. I have loved everything with this new record and I can’t wait until it comes out on the 22nd.

Check out the video after the jump. (I’d recommend watching it in full screen.) Continue reading
